Hervey Bay

Hervey Bay

Hervey Bay is a dynamic coastal centre approximately 300 kilometres north of Brisbane and is regarded by many as the whale watching capital of the world. Hervey Bay is renowned for its natural features and environment including calm waters, beaches, the annual whale migration, world heritage listed Fraser Island and the Southern Great Barrier Reef. The local authority area has a population of approximately 52,000 and is one of the fastest growing areas in Australia.

Recent accommodation developments such as the Peppers Pier Resort & the recently announced Ramada Resort and a range of new alfresco cafes and restaurants have created a cosmopolitan atmosphere, yet the lifestyle remains relaxed and casual.

The Esplanade hugs the north-facing beaches, passing through suburbs with English seaside names such as Scarness and Torquay. Bicycle paths weave around the picturesque foreshore, and continue on to the beautiful Botanical Gardens, the bustling marina, or the historic Urangan Pier, while the beachside picnic facilities and playgrounds are ideal for families.

Jetstar and Virgin Blue operate direct jet services from Sydney and Brisbane to the Fraser Coast and Melbourne flights are expected shortly.

Real estate has boomed in Hervey Bay and surrounding areas over the past 4 years but the area is still renowned as one of the more affordable beachside cities.

Established homes vary from $270,000 within a couple of minutes drive from the beach to $500,000 for beachside properties and up to a $1,000,000 for beachfront properties.

Unit prices vary from $300,000 to an average of around $400,000 depending on their proximity to the beach.

Land prices range from $110,000 for 450sqm blocks to $150,000 for 700 - 800 sqm blocks. Nearby suburbs Dundowran, Craignish and River Heads offer 3/4 acre blocks with ocean views for $150,000 - $200,000. Toogoom and Burrum Heads have beachside and beachfront residential blocks from $135,000 - $500,000 and 1/2 acre to 5 acre rural residential blocks from $120,000.
